I’m Haniyeh Salmani, a Ph.D. researcher at USAL
I obtained a bachelor’s degree in Project Management Engineering and a master’s degree in Civil Engineering- (Water Resources Management) in Tehran, Iran. For my Master’s degree, I focused on hydrology and water resource management. With my background of academic exploration in my bachelor’s degree, my interest in water resources management continued to evolve. I became interested in hydrology, hydrological modeling, the interaction of surface and groundwater, and climate change. Moreover, my thesis subject was ‘Compilation simulation of surface water and groundwater resources using the SWAT-MODFLOW model for the karstic basin’, and its manuscript was published in the Hydrogeology Journal.
Regarding my eagerness, I would like to learn more and more every day. So, I have other research works in high-quality peer-reviewed journals with different teams in terms of Detecting characteristics of extreme precipitation events using regional and satellite-based precipitation gridded datasets, Comparison of process-based and statistical approaches for simulation and projections of rained crop yields, Detecting drought events over a region in Central Europe using a regional and two satellite-based precipitation datasets.
I have also been selected to present my works at relevant international conferences (IAH Congress in South Korea, 2018; Water Security, Toronto, Canada, 2018; and Architecture, Civil, Design, and Environmental Engineering in Istanbul, Turkey, 2018).
From June 2023 I’m part of the AWARE research team, directed by C. Dionisio Pérez Blanco. My research is focused on developing a modular hydro-economic model that explicitly models surface water and groundwater systems. The water system is populated by the model SWAT+gwflow, while the human system is populated with a microeconomic positive mathematical programming (PMP) model that represents the behavior of irrigators. The proposed model is illustrated with an application to the overlapping Cega-Eresma-Adaja sub-basin and Arenales Aquifer in Spain.
I love traveling, watching movies, and reading books.
