RIPPLE
Pathways towards water and economic resilience in a changing climate
Project Info
Call: HORIZON-CL6-2025-02-two-stage
Type of action: Innovative action
(provisional date)
Project starting date: 1 january 2027
Project end date: 31 december 2030
THE
Project
Introduction
water managers do not have the information and capacity to design or implement transformations that enhance the capacity of societies and economies to resist, mitigate, and recover from water scarcity and hydroclimatic extremes, both now and in the future (i.e., their water resilience). Water managers still depend on limited and fragmented monitoring and simplified Decision Support Systems (DSS) that fail to capture the complexity and interconnectedness of water challenges, including key water ‘nexuses’
Objetive
catalyse science-informed transformations in water and river basin management, policy and governance to strengthen water resilience and adaptation to current and future water risks.
Methodology
The project is built on four complementary building blocks
- Engage water managers, spatial planners, authorities, and stakeholders in co-designing improved data services, knowledge products, training resources, and DSS that address water resilience challenges.
- Deliver enhanced data and modelling capabilities to forecast water risks, assess the performance, trade-offs, and impacts of solutions at multiple scales, and design and implement policy instruments for strengthening resilience.
- Transform governance through behavioural interventions that address cognitive biases and reduce risk-aversion, and through institutional analysis and stakeholder-led deliberation, propose changes to create site-specific pathways to resilience that enable learning, flexibility, and responsiveness to emerging risks
- Scale RIPPLE’s philosophy, outputs, and recommendations into the practices and decisions of water managers and stakeholders across spatial scales.
These three pillars are applied and tested in seven Living Labs across the Mediterranean, where scientists and stakeholders jointly develop, evaluate, and implement robust adaptation strategies to enhance water resilience.
