My primary research interests lie in risk, uncertainty, and sensitivity analysis and their integration into hydroeconomic models.
I am Giammauro Soriano, a predoc researcher at the IMDEA Water research center in Alcalá de Henares. I obtained my Bachelor’s Degree in Language, Culture, and Society of Asia and Mediterranean Africa (2019) from Ca’Foscari University of Venice. I further enriched my academic background with a Master’s Degree in International Relations (2022) and a Master of Science in Science and Management of Climate Change (2023), both in Ca’Foscari University as well. I am enrolled in the second year of the PhD programme in Economics at the University of Salamanca.
During my Master’s studies, my research focused on assessing drought-related vulnerabilities in the energy sector of hydropower-dependent sub-Saharan countries. For my thesis, I leveraged the SPEI and SPI indices on selected hydropower dams and employed nighttime illumination data as a proxy for electricity availability and consumption in major African urban centers.
My primary research interests lie in risk, uncertainty, and sensitivity analysis and their integration into hydroeconomic models. In the future I would like to expand these interests to the broader Water-Energy-Food-Health nexus and investigate the positive and negative interdependencies between these sectors.
In May 2023, I joined the TRANSCEND project as a predoc economist researcher. Since November 2024, I have been a research assistant at IMDEA Water, contributing to the TRANSCEND project. This project is funded by the European Union’s HORIZON EUROPE research and innovation program under grant agreement No. 101084110.
Outside academic research, I have a deep passion for roleplaying games such as Dungeons & Dragons, tabletop games, foreign languages and political history.
