THE
Project
Introduction
The Community of Madrid faces growing challenges in water resources management, including reduced water availability linked to climate change, increasing urban and industrial demand, ageing infrastructure, and the need to make better use of reclaimed water.
MADisWATER responds to these challenges by creating a public-private innovation Hub focused on the regeneration and valorisation of urban and industrial wastewater as alternative water resources.
Objetive
The objective of MADisWATER is to create and develop a public-private innovation Hub dedicated to advanced technologies, processes and management tools that reduce the water footprint of current and future water-consuming activities, increase the availability of alternative water resources, and support the sustainability of the urban and industrial water cycle in the Community of Madrid.
Methodology
MADisWATER brings together companies, a public water utility and IMDEA Agua to cover the full value chain of water regeneration and reuse. The approach combines:
1. Technologies for industrial wastewater regeneration, aimed at maximizing water recovery, meeting reuse requirements and reducing liquid discharge.
2. Technologies for urban wastewater regeneration, including biofiltration, nutrient recovery, membranes and other advanced treatment solutions.
3. Digital monitoring, sensing and cybersecurity to support real-time control of reclaimed water quality.
4. Economic and institutional analysis to assess barriers, technology competitiveness, and strategic recommendations for water resilience and market uptake.
These pillars will be tested through pilot activities and validation in real operational contexts.
