EUNOMIA
Socioecological ensemble forecasting using remote sensing data for sustainable and resilient groundwater management under uncertainty
Project Info
Nombre de la convocatoria: Proyectos de generación de conocimiento, convocatoria 2024, Programa Estatal para la Investigación y el Desarrollo Experimental – (2024-2027)
Project starting date: 1 september 2025
Project end date: 31 august 2028
THE
Project
Introduction
EUNOMIA develops cutting-edge remote sensing data and methods to quantify water use and related uncertainties (Subproject 1 – led by UCLM), and integrates this data into a socioecological modelling suite to forecast the socioeconomic and environmental impacts of groundwater management policies and related uncertainties (including cascading uncertainties from monitoring to forecasting) (Subproject 2 – led by IMDEA).
Objetive
The objective of EUNOMIA is to design and implement sustainable groundwater management policies that build resilience to socioeconomic and environmental change while enabling equitable and sustainable development:
-Understand and model the water use of permanent woody crops and other irrigated crops, and quantify related uncertainties.
-Understand and model human interactions at the local to global level, endogenize these processes into water system models, and quantify related uncertainties.
-Enhance the integration of cutting-edge remote sensing and socioecological modelling into decision making, and effectively communicate uncertainties through actionable tools.
-Test and inform the adoption of alternative water policies, harnessing regulatory, economic, financial, and hard and green engineering solutions.
Methodology
EUNOMIA fields an ecosystem of innovation structured across four pillars:
- Remote sensing-based monitoring and accounting model.
- Socioecological modeling suite.
- Actionable groundwater management tool.
- knowledge networks.
